It looks set to be a great year at Bradford Golf Club – once the winter rain, snow, wind and storms have abated and spring is finally on its way. The highlight of the season is sure to be the Club’s celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Hawksworth Trophy on September 26.

Yorkshire’s leading amateurs will compete for a prize that has been won by some memorable names over the years. Many of these great champions will be there to watch this year’s winner being crowned at a reunion dinner.

For the 2020 season, members and visitors alike look set to enjoy a course presented in even better order than ever. The quality, speed and subtlety of the putting greens has always been Hawksworth’s greatest strength– while this winter the greens’ staff have been busy implementing a programme of bunker refurbishment and bunker removal to ensure the whole course is equally impressive.

Thanks to the wet winter, the work has been well and truly tested – happily the bunkers have passed with flying colours.

The Club has also begun a programme of tree planting between the 5th and 13th holes.

The Yorkshire Ladies’ County Golf Association are holding their Annual Championship at Hawksworth from May 8th to 10th followed by their spring meeting on the 11th. No doubt as well as the course, the recently refurbished ladies’ locker room will be enjoyed by all the guests.

A new event this year sees a gents’ four-man team Spring Open being held in March which has proved to be popular as it’s already fully booked! However, don’t be too disappointed as there are still a few places left in the Club’s popular open days for men’s, ladies’ and mixed teams but again places are going fast so book soon.

At the end of the season, watch out for ghosts and ghouls on the fairways as the Club is planning its first Halloween Spooktackular – a mixed event including an optional fancy dress element with some great prizes.
