The Old Clubhouse
Over dinner at the last Board Meeting, the discussion turned to reminiscing how our clubhouse used to be prior to its major refurbishment in 2012.
The lady members will no doubt recall the separate ladies lounge to the far left of the building. Isolated from the rest of the clubhouse by old style glass partitions, the room was renowned for its plunging temperatures in the winter and soaring heat in the summer months.
Similarly, our male members will remember retiring to the old 19th to the rear of the building after their round of golf, to be welcomed by a rarely used, full size snooker table dominating the room, tired fixtures and fittings throughout, no view of the course and one principal source of natural light via an overhead skylight.
Junior male golfers were not allowed in the 19th and had to have their post-round food and drink in the front mixed lounge. This was another room renowned both for its heating shortcomings and well worn, outdated fixtures and fittings.
Contrast those days to now, five years on. We now have an impressive contemporary open plan environment, both inside and outside on the extended patio, in which all members can relax and enjoy together a first class bar and catering service whilst soaking in the fantastic, long distance views down the 1st, 11th and 18th fairways. Without a doubt, the envy of our competitors.
Importantly, the clubhouse refurbishment has also transformed the profitability of the bar and catering operation by allowing us to attract and hose more professional and financially rewarding member and non-member events. This also means lower member subscriptions!
Next time you are in the clubhouse, please take a moment to reflect on how far our clubhouse facilities have come in the last 5 years.
